Testing Translated Content:-
One may follow the below approach for testing the translated website:-
- Always refer the reference document to verify the translated content, no need to use any other external translators and thereby no guess work.
- The content in the reference document should exactly match with the content in the website otherwise it is a bug.
- It is also possible that the reference document might contain defects and the translated content in the website may be correct. In either case bug needs to be logged. The outcome is either the translated content in the website needs to be fixed or the translated content of the reference document.
- First thing is that you need to find out all the texts to be tested on the website. For example find out all validation messages, error messages, confirmation messages, etc. You can make note of the steps to produce such messages.
- To verify the translation you can copy the translated text from the reference document and using search option on the web page (Control + F) you can verify the text. The text on the website gets highlighted if it exactly matches the text in the search box.
Type of Translated content:-
One need to verify the translated content in the following areas in the website
- The content of the page.
- Labels of text boxes, check boxes radio buttons, drop-down list & button captions, etc.
- Tool tips, User defined messages like Validation messages/Confirmation messages.
- Water marks
- Normally URLs, Product names, Logo name are not translated.
- One should verify the same fonts used are loading in different browsers otherwise the text might render poorly.
Design of the website after translation:-
- The first thing that affects the website after translation is the design as the length of the English words translated in other language varies.
- So you need to verify every corner of the website where there is a text and corresponding area. For examples – Menu bar, Header, Footer, Button captions, Tool tips, etc.
