How to change default layout of Add Page in SharePoint 2013

By defaults when you create a page from site action “add a page” a gets created on Article Body layout.

To change the default layout (for this Add a Page) to your custom page layout we have to use Page layouts and site templates feature which available in site setting of publishing sites.

Steps:

  1. Firstly navigates to Site Setting using Gear Icon of your site. Under “Look and Feel” section click on “Page Layout and site template” as show in below screen shot which highlighted in yellow color.
  2. In Page Layout and site template page in “New Page Default Setting” select page layout that you need to set default page layout.
  3. Once you set default page layout, after that whenever you create page from “Add a Page” option the page will create from default page layout.

 

How to specify list of page layout to sub site?

There are certain conditions where we need to limit a page layout inherit from parent site. For this purpose we specify list of page layout’s which will only available for the sub sites.

Steps:

  1. Repeat above first step.
  2. In Page Layout and site template page in “Sub site Templates” section select “Sub sites can only use following site templates” option and add  page layout that you need to add.
  3. Afterword’s whenever you create page from page layout only above list of page layouts will see under page layouts option.
